Recovery analytics. The numbers that matter
Gross recovery, net recovery, recovery rate, and which one to optimize for.
The Recovery Analytics dashboard shows five numbers. Two of them matter most.
Gross recovered
Total dollars of failed payments that were retried successfully within 14 days. Sounds like the headline number, but it's misleading if you're looking to optimize.
Net recovered
Gross recovered minus the LTV of customers who churned *because* of the recovery sequence (a dunning email that pushed them over the edge). This is the number to optimize.
Recovery rate
Net recovered ÷ total failed-payment dollars in the period. Benchmark: above 65% is healthy, above 75% is excellent.
Time-to-recovery
Median hours from first failure to successful charge. Lower is better, and correlates strongly with keeping recovered customers long-term.
Dunning fatigue index
A composite of unsubscribe rate on dunning emails and LTV delta of recovered vs new customers. If this climbs, your sequence is too aggressive. Shorten it.
